Amish
To dream of the Amish tells me that you yearn for a purer life. You have been partying way too hard. The debaucheries of your heathen lifestyle are catching up to you: sleepless nights with another new lover, last call at the sticky dive bar, blowing mysterious powders at a stranger’s after party, sleeping until the afternoon, missing your shift, again. When’s the last time you ate a balanced meal? Or took a multi-vitamin? Or got a recommended 7-9 hours of sleep? Your brain and body are screaming at you to live a more wholesome lifestyle. Time to put your bonnet on and get churning.
Aquarium
According to the ancient practice of feng shui, having a healthy aquarium in your home attracts good luck, abundance, and prosperity. Imagine this aquarium of your dreams, as if it were the inside of your brain. Was it clean, with a thriving little ecosystem? Was it full of strange, unidentifiable creatures? Was it dirty, neglected, and unsightly? It’s possible that this aquarium is a representation of your inner world, calling attention to the hidden algae of the mind. Is your tank a magnet for milk and honey, or is it a reminder of what is stagnant, overwhelming, and unfulfilled?
To dream of an aquarium also brings up the question of captivity. Are you looking in or are you looking out? Are you an active participant in your life, or are you simply observing the world as it turns around you?
Baggies
Girl…what!? You’re having dreams about finding mad baggies in your purse…and you woke up and checked said purse…but it was all a dream? LMAO Either you’re high as hell (still) or have a million purses. I think both are probably true.
Cabin
I remember trudging through knee-high snow in the dark to reach the cabin- a little slice of solace from a very confusing but formative time living in Vermont. I’m with a friend, a friend who was a best friend, a friend I think back on fondly. It was her family’s cabin, and I was just so happy and grateful to be there. I was relieved when we finally arrived, although the temperature inside the cabin was the same as outside. She quickly lit a fire in the wood stove with such skill. We were home, here in this dimly lit cabin with a simple ladder to a loft bed we would share after a round of cards, maybe some watercolors, and a bottle of wine.
You’ve probably had really cozy and meaningful moments at a cabin that belonged to your family, a friend, or what would be a new friend. The lasting peace, simplicity, and comfort are still with you. In your dream, this is likely an emotional home base you’re eager to get back to.
Canoe
What do China, Nigeria, the Americas, and the Netherlands all have in common? Canoes.
The oldest canoe in the world, the Pesse Canoe, was found in a peat bog in the Netherlands. It’s believed to be 10,000 years old. Ancient dug out canoes have been discovered across the world, primitive evidence of a fascinatingly simultaneous and collective solution to the transportation of people and goods.
Travel by canoe is slow-moving, stoic. It evokes images of Indigenous Americans, paddling in tandem, in solemn resolve to the task at hand— hunting, gathering, leisure, or war. Or pioneers on the frontier, exploring territories unknown. “Think of our little eggshell of a canoe tossing across that great lake, a mere black speck to the eagle soaring above it!” – Henry David Thoreau, Canoeing the Wilderness
To dream of a canoe is a gateway to the wilderness of the mind. To travel by canoe represents a purposeful journey, ferrying the subconscious between what is established and what is concealed. You may be contemplating a voyage of your own— a new chapter, a new endeavor, a new life. Consider the condition of both the environment and the vessel itself. Is the water glassy and calm, ensuring a smooth passage? Or is it full of obstacles, rapids, or headwinds? Is the canoe well cared for, or is it full of holes, taking on water? Think of the details as clues on how you are handling this new undertaking. Intuitively, are you ready for a purposeful journey into the untold, or are you apprehensive and ill-prepared?
Cardinal
The Northern Cardinal’s flamboyant, bright red feathers are thought to represent an energetic self-assurance, a passion with a slight rebellious streak. It is reported that Cardinals mate for life, and thus, seeing cardinals is a symbol of loyalty, monogamy, and enduring love. Traditionally, the red cardinal is believed to be a messenger from the spirit world, typically a patriarchal male ancestor. Which, honestly…is funny as fuck because my patriarchal ancestor is probably chain-smoking Senecas with his favorite mistress in the afterlife right now.
